2003 Maico 500cc Cross
**German two-stroke desert weapon: This 2003 Maico 500cc is a water-cooled, factory-titled dirt bike that never made it to the U.S. market, now sitting at $11.5K with fresh service and Brembo brakes.** Track rats and vintage two-stroke purists know Maico's reputation for raw power—this one's got the compression release and 21" front wheel to back it up.
Editor's note
This is the kind of bike that makes you think twice about riding it, which is usually a very good sign. A 500cc two-stroke with a power delivery that feels less like acceleration and more like a personal act of aggression against whoever was reckless enough to buy it. And really, what’s not to love about that? The CR500 and KX500 get most of the glory, and rightfully so, but if those icons still are not avant-garde enough for you, here is something even stranger, meaner, and more unhinged waiting in the weeds. This is big-bore two-stroke insanity for people who believe normal motorcycles are missing a certain element of danger.
